Hired is a video series that gets new team members' take on what their first 30 days on the job are like at Venn.
Meet Payton Lamkin, a student at the University of Georgia who joined Team Venn as a marketing intern. We ask her all the big questions every job applicant and new recruit needs to hear—from company culture to role-specific opportunities.
I've really enjoyed how many different projects I've gotten to work on. I just wrapped up a project where I've edited social-cut videos for the various podcasts that Venn runs. Getting the experience of working with different editing software was valuable to me coming out of this internship.
Getting to drive more engagement on Venn’s social media accounts has been enjoyable for me. I've been doing graphic design for a while, so that's one of the areas that I enjoy working in the most.
I have loved Venn's company culture. That's one of the things that I was really drawn to. You know, looking for internships, it was important to me to work in an office amongst a team. So I definitely got the best of the best when it comes to collaborating with others and getting one-on-one training.
As I was applying for the position, it almost seemed a little too good to be true with—once again—the company culture, and just what you see is exactly what you get. And I think that's what surprised me. I mean, Venn has a Yeti mascot of all things and it’s just a fun concept to tie into our marketing.
Yes. I felt like I had everything that I needed to make this a worthwhile and valuable internship. Everyone around me has been a great resource, but also I felt like I was set up for success right when I joined. And, I haven't had to excessively ask for additional things when needed.
I just really enjoy the people I work with. I haven't ever felt like I'm just sitting around in a corner by myself. The collaboration and getting more experience with the skills I have has been a big motivator for me.
This has been a very valuable experience for me. I truly got valuable hands-on time working in different areas of marketing. I didn't feel pigeonholed into one specific type of project, whether that be video or graphics or a little bit of data here and there.
You can make what you want out of it. This has been a great experience for me moving forward and a starting point for my career in marketing.
