Hired is a video series featuring new team members during their first month on the job at Venn Technology.

Join us in welcoming Karissa Sasser, Project Manager. We ask her all the big questions every job applicant needs to hear before applying for a role—from company culture to role-specific opportunities.

What do you like about your position so far?

I have loved getting to learn new things daily and getting to be a part of something that was explained to me in the interview process but experiencing it and seeing it has been so different.

Do you feel welcomed by the team?

I feel incredibly welcomed by the team. It really is like a big family. Whether you’re in a meeting with everybody or you’re in a one-on-one setting, everybody’s working to make you feel like you can be successful here and you’re an important part of the company’s success.

What do you think of the company culture so far?

It’s definitely fun and the culture is a blast. I joked my first week that I was not fun enough to work here because there were people dressed in yeti suits and swim trunks. I thought to myself, “I don’t think I’m going to do that, but I love that for you.” I love that this is who we are and that people feel comfortable with us because we’re fun.

Is there anything that surprised you since joining the team?

I was surprised by how tight knit everyone on the team is. Even though we’re all wired differently, we have a common vision in mind to help other businesses with their manual processes.

Project Manager role - Venn Technology

Do you feel like you have the resources to be successful in your role?

I definitely feel resourced here. I have multiple sources of help, whether it’s people or processes, someone’s always there to help me understand something. And, no one has ever made me feel wrong for interrupting a meeting to ask questions or clarify terms that are new to me in my role.

What motivates you to continue working every day?

I love learning, growing, and taking on new challenges. Also, I’m empowered in knowing that I’m taking steps towards removing barriers for other people. When you’re learning a new industry as a project manager, you’re unlocking this whole realm of other places that you get to help remove barriers in—that has been so fun for me.

What are you hoping to accomplish in the next 30 days?

I’m currently leading two projects as the lead project manager with an assistant, and I’m really excited to one day be leading my own. That probably looks like a little bit longer of a timeline, but I would like to be on at least five projects in the next 30 days.

Anything else you'd like to add?

The Venn Team is a great team to be a part of, and it’s even more apparent when you’re in it day-to-day. What you can hear in an interview process or what you can read about online doesn’t fully capture Venn—being onsite is when you get the best idea of how the team really is.
