Hired is a video series that gets new team members' take on what their first 30 days on the job are like at Venn.

Meet Jose Valdez, Technical Project Manager at Venn. We ask him all the big questions every job applicant and new recruit needs to hear—from company culture to role-specific opportunities.

What do you like about your position?

I enjoy working with all of the applications we integrate, different clients, and the consultants on our team. As a technical project manager, I too enjoy using my technical expertise to help others. It's fun getting to pick people’s brains on our team and finding a middle ground and understanding of what exactly we're building for our clients.

Do you feel welcomed by the team so far?

Yes, I feel very welcome. Just in general, everyone is helpful and I feel like my voice and ideas are heard.

Has anything surprised you since joining the team?

When I had my first interview, Sam explained everything about Venn very clearly—what the company did and the culture. Throughout the interview process, I felt very welcomed and that my time and ideas were respected. Once hired, I appreciated clear communication about timelines and enjoyed how informative the onboarding process was.

Do you feel like you have the right resources to be successful in your role?

I feel very resourced. When I feel like I don't have everything, it's easy to discuss with our manager or operations team when certain tools could improve our day-to-day.

What motivates you to keep coming in each day?

My family, my kids, and making sure I am the best dad. I'm also nerdy to some extent, so I'm motivated to come in each day and learn new things. I learn a lot from our internal team, as well as from working with clients of all kinds of industries and backgrounds.

What are you hoping to accomplish in the next 30 days?

In the next 30 days, I hope to close out as many projects as I can. I already have a list of projects I'm on, so once those are completed, I plan on assisting our leadership team with other client work.

Anything else you'd like to add?

If you're on the fence about applying to any position at Venn, do it. It's a great experience to learn from whether you make it all the way through the process or not. You learn from the experience. You learn how to be treated and respected as a person in any interview process, hiring, and onboarding.
