As Salesforce Customer Advocate for Venn Technology, Nate’s number one priority is advocating for the needs of our clients after a project goes live.
6:00 AM: I start every single morning with five to ten minutes of what I call a “Positivity Session.” I have a notebook where I keep track of my personal goals, vision statements, and inspiring quotes. This sets the tone for my day and keeps me focused when any negativity tries to creep in, work-related or otherwise.
7:00 AM: I’m a big history guy, so I look forward to listening to the Hardcore History podcast on my drive into work. I’m learning about the history of Rome right now.
8:00 AM: Once at my desk, I catch up on emails and Slack conversations that came through from the night before. I pay special attention to urgency when prioritizing client requests, which is one of the most important parts of my job. Since I’m their first point of contact when an issue pops up, it’s my responsibility to assess the severity and re-prioritize the backlog.
Since I sit on the Salesforce side of the house (our other expertise is Sage Intacct integrations), the majority of my time is spent troubleshooting Salesforce flows, custom objects, and security settings.
9:00 AM: The remainder of my mornings are spent following up with clients to see if they’ve had a chance to test what we built or fixed. I also follow-up on ongoing requests, especially the ones that may not be urgent but still need attention. Like I mentioned before, I’m constantly reprioritizing to ensure we resolve the most urgent issues quickly. I probably interact with 12 clients on average every week, so that’s more than enough to keep me busy.
12:30 PM: I snack a lot throughout the day, so I don’t always eat at a conventional “lunchtime” hour. On the days I don’t pack my lunch, my guilty pleasure is the crispy chicken sandwich from Popeyes.
1:00 PM: My afternoons vary depending on the support ticket that I’m working on. Some cases I’m more hands-on building and troubleshooting Salesforce flows, whereas other cases the work is delegated out to one of our integration consultants. They’re usually pretty focused on other client work, but Scott’s created an environment that enables flexibility without chaos.
It’s really motivating being surrounded by a team that’s so focused, but at the same time you don’t feel like you’re under pressure. We also have the technology and tools we need to do our best work, so that’s a big motivator too.
3:00 PM: Another aspect of my role is conducting training sessions with clients so they can be more independent with Salesforce features.
5:00 PM: To be honest, some days I’ll leave around five, but others I’ll look up and it’s already seven. I’ll get lost in building a Salesforce flow. That’s how you know you’re really having fun at work – when you completely lose track of time working on a specific project or task.
6:00PM: My family is really important to me. We don’t do it often, but we like to take vacations at the beach. We’ve gotten pretty good at building sandcastles over the years. Plus, it helps when we’re all working together.
We also enjoy playing games. Some of my wife and I’s favorites are Ticket to Ride, Spicy Uno, and Farkle.
