What’s the difference between a Salesforce Instance and an Org?

We get this question a lot, and maybe you’ve wondered too: what is a Salesforce Instance, and how is it different than a Salesforce Org?

In short, a Salesforce Instance is the installation of Salesforce’s software that resides on a server (or group of servers likely). An Org is your specific organization’s data and meta data. Salesforce has multiple orgs residing on the same instance. Your data is itself contained within your org which can share the same instance as hundreds or even thousands of other orgs.

But in the long-run, Salesforce does a great job of keeping all that data separate and secure.

If you still have questions or would like to understand the best solution and configuration for your organization, we would be thrilled to have a discussion with you.
